Music Ministry

Director of Music,

Duane Blakley

The Music Ministry provides worship leadership for the entire congregation. We sing and play "psalms, Hymns, and spiritual songs" with energy and sincerity, in the power of God's Holy Spirit and with the understanding of His Word, the Bible. Our music includes a variety of styles from the classics to traditional hymn and spirituals, to contemporary praise and worship selections.

Our 40-voice choir, accompanied by organ, piano and occasional solo instruments, leads worship every Sunday for the 10:30 a.m. service with a warm-up rehearsal at 8:45 a.m. The main rehearsal is Wednesday, 7:15-8:45 p.m. However, we consider the congregation our biggest and most important "choir".

The choir presents two major programs each year: one during the Christmas season and another in spring or summer. The choir is usually accompanied by an instrumental ensemble and/or handbells. Anyone high school age and up may sing in our choir provided he or she will commit to being faithful to rehearsals and services, and can carry a tune in the same key with everyone else. If interested, call Duane Blakley at 922-0692.

The choir's next major project is the Christmas presentation scheduled for Friday, December 17, 3:00 and 6:30 p.m. It is titled The Most Wonderful Time of the Year and will feature in the first half popular entertaining selections including the famous setting of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. The second half will be a new Southern Gospel Musical titled Beautiful Star. A video show will accompany the entire production. The choir and guest singers from around the Village will begin preparations with a Saturday workshop from 9:00 to noon October 9. If interested, call Duane Blakley.

The handbell choir (Barcelona Bells) rehearses Mondays from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. and ring during services several times each season. Again, anyone who can read music and is interested in ringing should call 922-0692.
